Cranberry Bread

Recipe by Elaine Moran, from her recipe box

2 cups flour (sifted)                                        2 T. melted shortening/butter
1/2 t. salt                                                         ½ cup orange juice
1 ½ t. baking powder                                      2 T. hot water
½ t. baking soda                                              1/2/ cup chopped walnuts
1 cup sugar                                                      1 cup cranberries (cut in half)
1 egg

Sift dry ingredients. Beat liquid ingredients. Combine with dry ingredients, nuts and cranberries. Stir only until dry ingredients are moist. Bake at 325 degrees for 1 hour and 10 minutes if baking in one pan. Or 40 minutes in 3 small pans.  Brush with butter before removing from the pan. Wrap in wax paper when taken from the oven and place immediately in refrigerator.

I recently rediscovered this recipe.  When I made it, all kinds of wonderful childhood memories came flooding back. This is yummy.
